Mentality Part 2 – Hardwork
One of our core values at 41o is the idea that things you want require hard work. To have long term and sustainable results you have to put in the work. I think this idea that a 40 hour work week is too much is crazy. Personally, I don’t think it is enough. Sure, when I worked at jobs I hated I wished the work week were shorter. But even then I could have gotten better results with a bit more effort. Even now I know I could be doing more. Somebody out there is going to put in the work. That we know. And the ones that don’t will be wondering why they don’t have the results they desire.
I am not saying we should be unsafe. This doesn’t mean to push your body until it breaks. It means that we should make the most out of the hours that we have. Take an audit of the 16-18 hours you have in your day. How much of it is spent doing things that result in a negative to your production? If you can’t carve out that 90 minutes to go to the gym, workout and get back home because you are busy perusing your dream I get that. But if you were to take an audit of your day or week how many hours did you spend on things that shouldn’t be prioritized over your health? I spent 6 hours watching basketball this weekend. Is that setting me up for success this week?
Often times people say they want to be able to do a pull up by the end of the year. They look for some tips on how to get there quicker. A shortcut that a coach may have. They give a baffled look when the answer is to do more drills on pulling and dead hangs from the bar and negatives and… work.
I urge you to really look at what you want and what you are doing to see if they align. Are the top 3-5 things you are doing each day helping you reach your top 3-5 goals? Start by establishing your goals then log a week worth of activities. Down to the amount of time you spend eating. Be precise. At the end of the week take a look and see how much time you spent on certain things. I bet you will be surprised.
